LEARN TO RIDE HOLIDAYS, SHORT BREAKS AND ACTIVITIES
At The Old Vicarage we offer several packages for the individual who would like to learn to ride.
Comprehensive Natural Horsemanship and Learning to Ride lessons
Learning to Ride Short breaks
Learning to Ride Holidays
Both the Short Break and Learning to Ride holidays can be based on either our Half Board or our Bed and Breakfast packages.
Natural Horsemanship is an essential aspect of our learning to ride programme both in respect to the activity of learning to ride itself and as part of a learning to ride holiday or short break. It is important for the beginner to form a relationship with the horse as this increases the confidence and understanding of the individual.
As a complete beginner the week will include introduction to all aspects of Stable Management which helps to settle any nervousness (on your part – not the horse). You will learn how to catch your horse, tie them up and groom them. You will learn tacking and untacking of your horse and turning out your horse.
As well as Natural Horsemanship, Stable Management and getting to know the horses the amount of time you spend on horse related activities is totally up to you depending on how comprehensive you would like your programme to be.
Our Horse riding activities are based on how well the individual progresses. You learn in your own time, not ours. It is totally up to the individual how much they would like to learn and what they want to accomplish. For this reason we do not mix accomplished riders with beginners or novices and therefore we will never hold you back in your progress.
All our programmes of activities will vary with the individual but a typical first day would include going into the field and catching your horse, leading and bringing the horse in to the stables, grooming, putting on the halter and getting to know your horse.
Along with our unique natural horsemanship approach to our horses you will find your confidence and understanding build quickly.
Depending on what you would like to accomplish and how confident you feel you will be introduced to how it feels to sit bareback on a horse. You will be introduced to barrel racing where you complete a circuit of the riding area being initially led and progressing to riding at a walk.
According to how well you progress and what you would like to accomplish it is quite common to be trotting and cantering by the end of the first day. On the first day you will also be introduced to the saddle, both the English and the Western saddle, so that you can compare how each feels to use.
This is only an overview of what can be achieved even on the first day of learning to ride.
The most important thing to remember is that whatever means of learning to ride you choose, whether it be lessons, a short break or holiday the whole programme is planned and devised around what you feel able to do and what you would like to accomplish.

TEAM BUILDING HOLIDAYS, SHORT BREAKS AND ACTIVITIES
Horse orientated activities can be massively effective in team building exercises. As horse specialists we specialize in activities suitable for small groups with no necessity for any riding experience or even any experience of horses at all.
We offer short breaks or holidays which focuses on the team building necessary if not essential between people who work together. We can also offer a full day of team building activities (out of season).
The activities involved in team building encourages all those involved to participate and cooperate as well as inspiring trust, confidence, better communication and enjoying sometimes challenging experiences together.
Would you trust a colleague to guide you blind-folded around an inquisitive horse?
Can you communicate well enough together to stop a hungry horse from getting to food in a bucket right in the middle of the paddock with only yourselves between the horse and what he wants?
Can you follow directions from others and show the horse where you would like him to go rather than where he wants to go? Does this sound like one of your work mates when he/she has their own way of doing things, which may not be the best way?
Working with horses is calming, relaxing and full of surprises. Individuals find new strengths and abilities within themselves whereas others may be slightly deflated as to their own abilities. All the activities are rewarding and revealing to those who wish to experience team building in a slightly different way in comparison to traditional team building exercises.
Our programme of Natural Horsemanship is philosophically based on the needs and wants of the horse and we will base our activities on what the horse enjoys and is happy to do. We place great emphasis on respect between the horse and the individual, which is an essential aspect of learning to work with and ultimately to ride the horse, and to ride the horse properly.
Natural Horsemanship forms the basis of all the Horse orientated activities we offer at The Old Vicarage. In addition to learning to approach the horse with respect and understanding you will learn all the essential skills such as learning how to catch your horse, grooming, leading, familiarizing individuals with riding tackle, the parts of the horse and horse characteristics etc ...
Natural Horsemanship is an essential aspect of our learning to ride programme both in respect to the activity of learning to ride itself and as an integral part of a learning to ride holiday or short break. It is important for the beginner to form a relationship with the horse as this increases the confidence and understanding of the individual. Ideal for the beginner as an introduction to really learning about the horse in it's true sense and how we can work together – horse and human. Invaluable for all other levels of experience for a richer, deeper bonding between horse and rider and possible solutions to problems you may have encountered with your own horse.
Take the reins and enjoy the timeless pleasure of wandering down the lanes, exploring the beautiful Cornish countryside under true horse power, or learn the preliminaries of breaking a horse to harness.

EQUINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY HOLIDAYS, SHORT BREAKS AND ACTIVITIES
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is an emerging field of psychotherapy which uses interaction with horses as part of a treatment to facilitate emotional growth and learning.
The treatment encompasses a collaborative effort between a skilled and qualified therapist, a horse professional and the horse, and due to its effectiveness and intensity is classed as a brief intervention with clients.
The EQUUS programme at Churchtown Morgans is a model sponsored and produced by the Equine-Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA), the professional body for this treatment field.
It is a 100% ground-based programme with no ridden element.
The service users learn about themselves by participating in activities with horses and then processing feelings, behaviours and patterns both in one-to-one and group sessions with the therapists.
EAP has been found to be very effective in the following areas:
Equine-assisted psychotherapy has been shown to illicit a powerful and effective therapeutic effect and can have an incredible impact on individuals, families and groups.
